Your midterm is now available here.
The exam is based on identification, commentary, and analysis of short passages from the set readings. More details will be available on the exam itself as well as here.
Note that your focus should be on trying to understand and explain the passages in front of you.
You have 24 hours to write this exam (until 4pm Pacific Time on Friday, February 17), but in total it should not take you more than an hour and a half of focused concentration. You may consult the texts and/or any other material, but I do not particularly recommend you do so, as it will only slow you down and even distract you from the task at hand. Indeed, I strongly suggest that you treat it as though it were an in-class exam.
Put this another way: our course playlist is currently 1 hour, 56 minutes, and 58 seconds long. If you start it as you begin the exam, you should be finished writing well before the music ends! You may not even get as far as the Mayan rap and will almost certainly miss Rita Indiana’s “La hora de volvé”.
Email me your finished scripts (ideally in PDF format) at jon.beasley-murray@ubc.ca. You can also email me with questions if necessary, but I hope that everything is pretty clear.
Good luck!
